KNIGHTS: 3
LAUREL HIGHLANDS HIGH SCHOOL: 4

A very good season with an exciting playoff run came to an end for the Knights on Wednesday as they lost the WPIAL 4A Consolation game to a very good Laurel Highlands team, 4-3.  Senior Angelo DeLeonardis got the start on the mound and came into the game with a 6-1 record and a 1.37 ERA.  DeLeonardis and the defense held the Mustangs scoreless through 3 innings, and Knoch jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third.

The Knights went down in order in the 1st and 2nd innings against Laurel Highlands ace Joe Chambers, who kept hitters off balance from start to finish with a good mix of pitches as he recorded 12 strikeouts and held Knoch to 6 hits.  With 2 outs in the 3rd, Dathan Gillis hit a single up the middle and advanced to second on a DeLeonardis walk.  Brady Wozniak scored Gillis and moved DeLeonardis to third on a line drive single to left to pick up his first of two hits and two RBI's on the day.  Eli Sutton singled and picked up an RBI as DeLeonardis scored.

In the bottom of the 4th, Laurel Highlands scored all 4 of their runs, via a hit batter, walk, three singles, and a double steal.  Jacob Stallsmith replaced DeLeonardis on the mound with 2 outs in the 4th and didn't allow another hit the rest of the way.

Down 4-2 in the top of the 7th, Jacob Wagner led off the inning with a pinch hit line drive single to center field and advanced to 2nd on a wild pitch.  Wozniak, who was the only Knight with two hits in the game, picked up his second RBI on a single to center as Wagner scored, but that would be it for Knoch.

Knoch finishes the season at 13-9 and made the WPIAL 4A semifinals for the first time since the 2016 season under first year Head Coach Bill Stoops, and assistants Steve Hall and Larry Crawford.  The season was full of thrilling come from behind late finishes as well as some close heart breakers in the playoffs, and through it all these Knights played as a team and played with grit and heart, as they made a run that nobody but them thought that they could make.

Knoch got big contributions from its 8 seniors - Jacob Boris, Angelo DeLeonardis, Luke DiSanti, Dathan Gillis, Anthony Grafton, Luke Priester, Isaac Roddy, and Eli Sutton - and has a good nucleus of underclassmen returning who made important contributions to the team and got a lot of big game experience this season.
